Book Work

Book Work is an opportunity to explore learnings from selected books by reading deeper in order to gain an understanding of avoided or taboo topics. This will be accomplished by reading one book over the course of three months, completing homework assignments, and participating in guided discussions. Our goal will be to create a safe space for honest discussion to uncover implicit biases, confront complicity, and lead to actionable, corrective behaviors.

The current readings include the following four books—The Body Is Not An Apology by Sonya Renee Taylor, White Tears/Brown Scars by Ruby Hamad, The Ethical Slut by Janet W. Hardy, and Dossie Easton, and Period. End of Sentence. by Anita Diamant.

This workshop was originally only offered in-person and due to increased interest from folkx in various locations, this will be moved to an online space, too! We'll be using a private channel on Birds & Bees' Slack for which you'll receive a link to after you sign up.

As to payment, please contribute an amount that works with your budget when you sign up. If you have the ability to pay a higher amount that helps to support other participants, keep the lights on, and support other positive sex education programs.

It is an individual's responsibility to assess and decide whether they can make a commitment to participate in an ongoing workshop like this. Please consider in your decision to sign up whether you can fully commit to online discussions, assigned readings, and homework assignments. The safe space is built on consistent participation by everyone. Thank you!
